Reality Fracture Hexhaven Academy and Set Mechanics

Five allied-color schools, Prepared, and the tower that replaced Strixhaven in the Echoverse.

Hexhaven and Mechanics

Hexhaven Academy is the Limited skeleton of Reality Fracture and the story’s main location. It is Strixhaven rewritten for war. Cadets are battlemages, not dual-major scholars. The campus is not a lakeside university; it is the lower bulk of the Theorist’s Tower, warped until hallways fold and a staircase can drop you three floors down. Around the tower for nearly a hundred miles sits the Eradia, a wasteland of mage hunters and witchstalkers.

Read this page with limited archetypes open if you care about picking. Read it with Jace open if you care about why the tower exists.

Why the schools are allied colors

On regular Arcavios, Strixhaven’s colleges are enemy-color pairs. On Echoverse Arcavios the Theorist’s edits favored harmonious mana. Five elder sphinxes emerged from a leyline confluence and founded five allied-color schools:

Fatehold (white-blue) — School of Future History

Founder: Denzilore Fatehold. Divination, prophecy, archives. Magic looks like spectral pages. Spoiled signpost: Prudent Fateseer // Peer Review, a dwarf wizard that enters prepared and pumps the team when you scry or surveil. Enlightened Confidant is the mythic Kor cleric in this lane.

Theorix (blue-black) — School of Esoteric Mathematics

Founder: Uldaros Theorix, who built the original fortress. Paradox, portals, impossible geometry. Signpost: Paradox Shaper // Omit Variables, an octopus wizard. The campus sits nearest the sanctum and is the most physically unsafe.

Stingerquill (black-red) — School of Painful Words

Founder: Ingris Stingerquill. Battlepoets, curses, rhythmancy. Cadets are the source of their own magic. Signpost: Stingerquill Voxmancer // Vicious Verse. Stingcaster Mage is a shattered-mirror-style red wizard that shows a student breaking an Innistrad image.

Konstrari (red-green) — School of Constructive Arts

Founder: Aerid Konstrari. Puppetbeasts animated with heartwood crystals. Signpost: Woodwork Prodigy // Soul Tether. Craterclaw Colossus is the mythic artifact beast — a Craterhoof-shaped haymaker for construct decks.

Vigorbloom (green-white) — School of Invasive Healing

Founder: Kwia Vigorbloom. Graft surgery, plants sown into flesh, community over consent. Signpost: Vigorbloom Vanguard // Seed Suture.

Communal spaces in the tower’s midsection include dormitories, a mess hall, and the Folioplex, a locked-down archive that even contains a sentient dangerous tome named Codie. Failed graduates cook and shelve. Successful ones advise villages or stay as professors in the Theorist’s service.

Prepared, in rules language

Prepared debuted in Secrets of Strixhaven and returns here as a Limited engine. A Prepared card has a creature face and a spell face. While the creature is prepared, you may cast a copy of its spell. Doing so unprepares it. The creature remains.

Spoiled cards prepare in three ways:

  • Enter prepared: Prudent Fateseer, Vigorbloom Vanguard.
  • Prepare at the beginning of your upkeep if they are not prepared: Paradox Shaper, Stingerquill Voxmancer, Woodwork Prodigy.
  • Prepare after a board condition: Bloodline Recollector prepares at each end step if three or more creatures died this turn.

Play pattern: curve the body, spend the spell when you can, get the body back as a vanilla or utility attacker. Do not count the spell as a second card in your deck because you still have to pay it.

Exhaust, Lotus, and the rest of the rules file

Hexhaven is the campus. Keywords that are not school names live on the mechanics guide: Exhaust (public on Liliana the Repentant), the Lotus artifact token, the new wish, ally-color duals, and hosers. Rosewater’s name list sits on the teaser tracker. Do not draft as if those promises were already in your Sealed pool.

The tower, the Eradia, and why Limited feels vertical

The Theorist siphons the leyline confluence, projects illusions, and rarely leaves the sanctum. Birds wear his hooded face. Faceless guards wear Vryn-cut uniforms. Cadets drill until their thoughts are quiet enough not to distract him — which also makes them easier to read. That fiction maps onto cards that care about scry, surveil, death, and constructs: information, silence, fuel, and siege engines.

You do not need the Planeswalker’s Guide memorized to draft. You need the five color pairs and Prepared. The rest is flavor that makes those pairs memorable. When you sort a prerelease pool, label the piles Fatehold through Vigorbloom, then build the two deepest piles. That is the entire Hexhaven Limited skill in one sentence.

For pair legends that sit on top of these schools, use echoed pairs and the planeswalkers hub. For which spoiled uncommons are actually first-pickable, use early cards. Hexhaven is the map; those pages are the pins.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Are Hexhaven schools enemy colors like Strixhaven?

No. They are allied pairs: WU, UB, BR, RG, GW. The Theorist’s edits favored harmonious mana.

Does Prepared exile the creature when I cast the spell?

No. Casting the copy unprepares the creature; the body stays on the battlefield.

Is Bloodline Recollector a Hexhaven student?

In-story, yes — a cadet sculpted for Jace’s cause. Mechanically it is a black Prepared mythic and the Collector headliner.

Where should I go after this page?

Limited archetypes for picking, echoed pairs for the pack slot, Jace for the tower’s owner.
