Reality Fracture for Commander

Reality Fracture ships a single Commander deck: Multiverse Reforged, four colors (white-blue-black-red), led by a Jace, built around replacing tokens with alternate-reality versions of familiar creatures. It contains 18 new-to-Magic cards — high for an in-universe precon — and 88 reprints. Set code FRC. MSRP $49.99. The full list was not public when this page was written.

Five Foundations Commander Decks arrive the same day. They are not FRC. They are single-color starters (Giada, Sai, Gisa, Lathliss, Ghalta). Put them in a different shopping cart. SKU split: products.

Why there is only one precon

Gavin Verhey has said players preferred one distinctive deck around the villain rather than several decks repeating stock themes. That constraint is also why Wizards could print Echoverse characters who cannot appear in the main set’s echoed-pair structure, including people who are dead in the mainline story. If you want “the Jace deck,” this is the SKU. If you want five-color goodstuff, you are brewing, not buying a second FRA precon that does not exist.

FRC versus FRA in your deck box

FRA cards are Standard legal and therefore Commander legal. FRC cards are Commander, Legacy, and Vintage legal; they are not Standard. Darksteel Angel is the example everyone will get wrong: a nine-mana artifact angel using unused Chippy art from the unmade Mirrodin Pure concept, printed in FRC. It is a Commander cameo about a timeline where Mirrodin beat Phyrexia. It is not a Standard card.

Special Guests (SPG) can appear in Play Boosters and are older-format legal in the usual SPG way. Confirm on format legality before you register a Standard event.

FRA names Commander tables will actually feel

Even without the precon list, several main-set cards are Commander bait:

• The Theorist, Jace Beleren — a face walker in blue. Every Jace deck will at least test him. Character page: Jace.
• Bloodline Recollector — aristocrats and token decks want a Prepared draw engine that cares about deaths.
• Craterclaw Colossus — token/artifact stompy, the “Craterhoof but metal” slot.
• Echoed-pair walkers — Chandra, Garruk, Ajani in new colors. Color-shifted legends are how Commander players reprint identity without reprinting the same card. See planeswalkers and Chandra.
• Liliana the Faultless — one-mana white legend. Token and lifegain commanders will fight over her.

Prepared as a mechanic is a Commander sleeper: a creature that keeps handing you a spell is catnip in multiplayer if the spell scales. Rank the uncommons after you see the spell faces, not before.

Events if you play in stores

Commander Party (October 9–15 and October 23–29) hands out Crystal Ball. Two-Headed Giant Commander Night uses the same promo on a monthly slot. Those are participation events, not RCQs. Spotlight: Fracture is constructed competitive, not the place to sleeve Multiverse Reforged unless the format says Commander — it will not. Calendar: release dates.

Buying advice specific to EDH players

Buy the precon if you want the 18 new cards without cracking Collectors. Buy singles of FRA bombs if you already have a Jace or aristocrats deck. Skip Draft Night unless you also Limited. Skip Foundations decks unless you are teaching someone Commander; they are not “Reality Fracture value.” More on that split in the buyer guide.

When the official Multiverse Reforged list lands, this page will add a staples table (new cards versus reprints). Until then, treat Darksteel Angel, the 18-new-card count, and the WUBR identity as the known Commander story — not a fake 99-card list.
