Reality Fracture Limited Archetypes
Five allied-color schools plus how echoed pairs splash into them.
Until commons arrive, Limited archetypes are the five Hexhaven schools. That is enough to draft and to build Sealed. Enemy-color “rogue” decks will exist; they are not the plan for prerelease night.
School fiction and Prepared rules: Hexhaven. Pick orders: how to draft. Card grades: early cards.
White-blue Fatehold — scry, surveil, tempo Prepared
You want Prudent Fateseer and any spell that scries. Enlightened Confidant is the mythic cap. Ajani Resolute is the walker you splash only if you are truly white. Game plan: nibble, see extra cards, spend Prepared spells on the opponent’s turn when possible. Avoid greedily adding Chandra, Chill of Compliance unless you have blue density; she is a gift when you are already U, a trap when you are “WU because Ajani.”
Blue-black Theorix — paradox, mill, control Prepared
Paradox Shaper is the signpost. You want removal, card selection, and time. The Theorist himself is your bomb. Tinybones is a pest in the black half. This lane will feel slow until cheap interaction shows up in commons; if the format is hyper-aggro, Theorix becomes a trap. Do not force it from a Sealed pool with five playable blue cards.
Black-red Stingerquill — Prepared aggro, words, burn
Stingerquill Voxmancer and Liliana the Repentant live here. Stingcaster Mage is the red mythic. You want cheap creatures and spells that empty the opponent’s hand or life total. Bloodline Recollector is a high pick if your deck actually kills creatures; it is not an aggro one-drop. Passing a clean burn spell to take a five-drop poet is how you lose Stingerquill.
Red-green Konstrari — constructs, tethers, stompy
Woodwork Prodigy and Craterclaw Colossus. You want artifacts, tokens, and tramplers. Garruk, Curse Breaker is the green walker you actually cast. Soul Tether as a Prepared spell should make a Heartwood-style token; play as if you are a midrange deck, not a combo deck, until the full text of construct payoffs is public.
Green-white Vigorbloom — graft, lifegain, go-wide
Vigorbloom Vanguard, Liliana the Faultless if you are white, Titanbones if you are green. You want creatures that multiply or gain life, then a Prepared spell that resets the board math. This lane will absorb Faultless more often than Fatehold will, because Faultless wants a team.
Splash rules for echoed pairs
Pairs are not a sixth archetype. They are a mana question. Opening Chandra’s pair in a Stingerquill seat: play Torch, board Chill, unless you drafted blue duals. Opening Garruk’s pair in Vigorbloom: Curse Breaker is on-color, Veiled Butcher is a black splash you should refuse. Opening Ajani’s pair in Fatehold: Resolute is on-color, Unrelenting is a red splash for the greedy.
Pick-Two (Draft Night, Reality Echoes) lets you take both halves. That does not make five-color correct; it makes two-color plus both Chandras possible. How to draft covers the pick math.
Sealed versus draft
Sealed pools will contain more legends than you are used to. Stay in two schools that overlap a color (WU+UB, or RG+GW) before you go three colors. Draft can stay mono-pair more easily because you can cut the off-half.
When commons reveal ally-color duals or a new tap restriction (Rosewater teaser), this page will add a mana subsection. Until then, treat tapped duals as precious and untapped duals as first-picks.
Play the school that matches your signposts, not the school whose mythic you opened if the rest of the pile is empty. That sentence wins more prereleases than any S-tier list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Should I draft enemy colors?
Not as plan A. The set is built on allied Hexhaven pairs. Rogue enemy decks can exist after commons show up.
Is Bloodline Recollector a Stingerquill card?
It is black, so it fits Theorix or Stingerquill if you can feed deaths. It is not a school signpost.
What do I do with a pair off-color?
Main-deck the on-color half, sideboard the rest, or pass in draft. See echoed pairs.
Where do I learn Prepared?
