Reality Fracture on MTG Arena

MTG Arena and Magic Online add Reality Fracture on September 29, 2026. That date sits inside prerelease week, so digital Limited opens while paper events are still running in stores. You do not wait for October 2 unless you only play tabletop.

This page is the digital counterpart to prerelease and how to draft. Card legality nuances live on format legality. Story and mechanic primers remain getting started and Hexhaven.

What you get on September 29

Expect the usual Arena pattern for a Standard set:

• Play Boosters in the store, with the same echoed-pair slot as paper.
• Premier Draft, Quick Draft, and Sealed queues once Wizards turns them on.
• Traditional and Ranked Standard adding FRA cards.
• Mastery Pass / seasonal cosmetics tied to the set, announced closer to launch.

Magic Online follows the same legal date for the set file. If you split time between clients, treat September 29 as one digital street date, not two.

Commander on Arena is not the same product as Multiverse Reforged. The FRC precon is a paper Commander deck; Brawl and Historic Brawl will ingest FRA cards that are legal in those queues, not necessarily the 18 new-to-Magic FRC cards. Check each card’s legality on Arena before you paste a paper list.

How Limited will feel digitally

Echoed pairs still exist in digital packs. The interface will show both halves; you still pick one card in Premier Draft and pass. Quick Draft bots will mis-signal pairs — they always do on gimmick sheets. Prefer Premier if you care about reading the table.

Sealed on Arena is the closest analogue to prerelease without a store. Six boosters, 40 cards, no foil promo in the same physical-kit sense. If you want the paper event feel, go to a store instead of treating Arena Sealed as a substitute prize structure.

Prepared is a UI-heavy mechanic: creature face, spell face, prepared status. Read the helper text the first time a card enters prepared. The Hexhaven guide explains the rules; Arena will still let you mis-click the spell if you ignore the prompt.

Standard notes before the file is complete

FRA is a Standard-legal expansion. FRC Commander cards and most Special Guests printings follow older-format rules, not Standard. Do not import Darksteel Angel into a Standard best-of-three list. The Commander page flags FRC names so you do not mix them.

Spoiled Standard cards worth testing in Bo1 once the queue is live include the echoed planeswalkers, Bloodline Recollector in midrange black, and Liliana the Faultless if white weenie still wants a one-mana legend. Rankings of those names: early cards. None of that is a locked metagame. The full file is not public yet.

Practical prep in the next month

1. Clear vault space and uncommons you will wildcard after the set debuts.
2. Watch the spoiler tracker from September 8 so you are not drafting blind on the 29th.
3. If you also play paper, book prerelease separately — Arena does not replace the in-store kit after At-Home retirement.
4. Budget wildcards for echoed-pair myths only if you like both halves; the pair is a pack thing, not a wildcard bundle.
5. Keep a tab on official links for the Arena patch notes the week of the 29th.

Digital players get the set three days early relative to tabletop. Use those three days to learn Prepared and the five color pairs, then take that knowledge to Friday Night Magic after October 2. Do not assume Arena Bo1 aggro is the paper Sealed truth — different queues, different incentives.

If you only play Arena, you can skip Draft Night and the Secret Lair Bundle entirely. Your buying decision is wildcards, gems, and maybe the Mastery Pass, which is a different calculator than the paper buyer guide. Use that guide only for gifts and for the paper events you still attend.
